On October 7, 2022, Radio Zambezi FM held a live program with members of the Livingstone Palliative Care team. Their goal was to sensitize the public about their role in the care of patients with life-limiting illnesses.

The next day, on World Hospice & Palliative Care Day, the team visited patients at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Livingstone. The reason for the visit was to interact with patients and offer psychosocial and economic support to the hospice. The team also offered spiritual support to the patients; Father John was on hand to provide Holy Communion and pray for patients.

It was a joyous moment for members of the palliative care team to make a donation to the hospice, money raised by Livingstone Palliative Care members.

“What matters is not necessarily the amount of money we have given, although the donation must be meaningful,” said one member. “But what matters most is the heart with which it has been given, because palliative care is driven by love. When you do something out of love, it gives you satisfaction, and today I feel inner satisfaction for meeting the needs of the chronically ill.”

The team also made a financial donation to the hospice from the resources raised by members. Below,

Great idea!

St. Joseph’s Hospice in Livingstone, Zambia, built a fish farm in 2022 as a route to financial sustainability. The intention is for the farm to become a reliable stream of income to support the smooth running of the hospice, such as defraying the cost of food, medicines, and other operational costs.
