In this issue, Dr. Katherine Pettus reports on the PAL-LIFE Project and its draft ‘White Paper for Global Palliative Care Advocacy,’ as well as a recent Commission on Narcotic Drugs that addresses internationally controlled medicines.
In this month’s feature story, IAHPC Board Member Mary Callaway talks about the open access supplement on Palliative Care for Low-Income Countries that she co-edited, as well as some lessons from her 14 years as Director of the International Palliative Care Initiative.
As the IAHPC Newsletter celebrates its 22nd year, it bears mentioning that its roots are linked to the International Hospice Institute, which dates back to 1980. Institute members founded the IAHPC in order to encourage and enable each country, according to its resources and conditions, to develop its own model of palliative care.
If you want a good excuse to talk to others about today’s IAHPC, look no further than JPSM’s special supplement and its article by Liliana De Lima and Lukas Radbruch titled, ‘The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care: Advancing Hospice and Palliative Care Worldwide.’ The article details IAHPC programs, projects, and advocacy; in other words, the many reasons why we’re so proud of our dedicated members — who actively further the reach of palliative care worldwide. Happy anniversary to you!
Best wishes,
