Deadlines approach for 35 Traveling Scholarships to 3 conferences:
ALCP (Chile), EAPC (Switzerland), and ICPCN (South Africa)
The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) is pleased to announce it will provide:
- Twenty (20) scholarships to support the travel of palliative care workers to attend the IX Congreso Latinoamericano de Cuidados Paliativos de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Cuidados Paliativos (ALCP) in Santiago, Chile, on April 11-14, 2018. Deadline to apply is December 15, 2017. Results will be announced December 29, 2017.
- Five (5) scholarships to support the travel of palliative care workers to attend the 10th World Research Congress of the EAPC in Bern, Switzerland, on May 23-26, 2018. Deadline to apply is January 20, 2018. Results will be announced February 15, 2018, and
- Ten (10) scholarships to support the travel of palliative care workers to attend the 3rd International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) Conference in Durban, South Africa, on May 30-June 2, 2018 Deadline to apply is January 31, 2018. Results will be announced early March 2018.
Each scholarship of $US2,000 is to be used for registration and travel expenses. Winners will need to supply funding for other expenses. Applicants from all disciplines are welcome. To apply for a traveling scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- You have not received grants from IAHPC in the past 3 years.
- You are a current IAHPC member. If you wish to apply and are not an IAHPC member, you may join by clicking here.
Preference will be given to:
- IAHPC active members (minimum: 2 consecutive years)
- Institutions that are IAHPC active members (consult the list)
- Applicants living in Lower, Lower-Middle, and Upper-Middle income categories as per the World Bank income classification data
- Full-time palliative care workers
- Those who graduated university less than 10 years ago
- Applicants with an accepted abstract for oral or poster presentation (proof is required)
- Applicants who describe long-term goals that lead to improvements in one or more of these areas: service provision, education, availability of and access to medicines, public policy

Directory of Educational Programs in Palliative Care update complete
Julia Libreros, coordinator of the IAHPC International Directories, has finalized the revision and update of the IAHPC Directory of Educational Programs in Palliative Care. The directory, housed in the IAHPC website, is completely free. Anyone can access the information, and anyone can provide a listing.
Each listing includes the program’s learning objectives, fields of specialty, full contact information, costs, and more. Many thanks to Eric Krakauer for his guidance in the structure of the directory.
The directory is constantly being updated and expanded. Many of our members are affiliated with a university or teaching hospital and/or are involved with diplomas, certificates, seminars, post-graduate courses, fellowships, and other formal educational programs. If you have not done so yet, please add your program to the IAHPC directory to help us provide this free service to the global palliative care community.

IAHPC and WHO online course participants to be named
In early December, a committee of IAHPC and WHO representatives will select candidates for a course to train PC providers and workers to write evidence-based policy briefs, so they can effectively work with policymakers to advance PC in their own settings. The application to become a candidate closed on 1 December 2017.
The International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care partnered with the World Health Organization Department of Service Delivery and Safety in Health Systems and Innovation to provide this opportunity. The course was designed in preparation for the July 2018 Open-Ended Working Group on Aging (OEWGA9).
The successful candidates will be announced by mid-December by both the IAHPC and WHO; the course begins 8 January 2018.
