Virtual Hospice – Free Online Tool
Indigenous Voices: Stories of Serious Illness and Grief
Indigenous people are commonly underserved in the healthcare system and their access to palliative care is among the lowest in Canada. To help improve quality of life and quality of care that is culturally safe and inclusive, Canadian Virtual Hospice and a team of Indigenous researchers, health providers, patients and families developed Indigenous Voices: Stories of Serious Illness and Grief. Indigenous Voices supports First Nations, Inuit and Métis living with advanced illness and their families and also serves as a rich educative tool for health providers.
In this video and print series, Indigenous people from across Canada share stories of caring, tradition, grieving and healing in 170 video clips organized by theme and eight patient and family handouts related to palliative care, end-of-life care, and grief.
Funding for Indigenous Voices was provided by the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.
View the Indigenous Voices series here.
Access is free of charge to all.
Online education for those who care for older adults – more resources
As the number of seniors who wish to age in place at home continues to grow, there is an increasing reliance on home healthcare services. This is especially true as healthcare reform puts pressure on hospitals and other care facilities to send patients home sooner. This in turn leads to a rise in the demand for home health care services, yet there is a lack of information available to seniors, caregivers, senior living communities and clinicians to help them choose which provider best fits their needs.
To combat this, mmLearn.org, a primarily free, non-profit web-based video training resource, is preparing a new video series along with resources on home health and what people need to know. Their goal is to give home health companies access to fresh perspectives.
In addition to the new videos, mmLearn.org has many videos on its site that home health care agencies will find very useful.
