Review of the Australian national palliative care standards
Palliative Care Australia is currently undertaking a review of the Australian National Palliative Care Standards. A revised draft of the Standards, the 5th edition, have been produced and they are released for public consultation.
Whilst the Standards are a guiding document for Australian palliative care, PCA would welcome input from other stakeholders, including our international colleagues, who may have experience of using palliative care standards in their work and have useful insights to offer.
The Consultation Paper, which includes the draft Standards and instructions about how to provide comments, can be downloaded from the PCA website.
Feedback is invited until 26 September 2014 and can be emailed to Heidi Moore, [email protected].
“Little Stars” campaign
“Little Stars”is a filmthat tell stories that displays the dramatic difference that children’s palliative care makes to young people living with life-limiting illness. It is focusedon the surprisingly life-affirming stories of children (as young as 8 months right up to 34 years of age) around the world living with life-limiting illnesses in order to show the immense benefits of this medical specialization. These very special kids are making the most of every moment thanks to the support of their families, in harmony with passionate ‘pain and palliative care’ teams.
That’s why the team at Moonshine Movies is making this film, because 20 MILLION CHILDREN around the world can benefit from palliative care right now, but access to services remains an issue. By showing these remarkable stories of young people finding hope, love, joy and attainment in the face of the inevitable, we can advocate for improved services which really make a difference to the quality of their lives.
The film that will be narrated by David Suchet and will host the World Premiere at the World Cancer Congress in Melbourne this December. It must be finished and that's why a crowd funding campaign is needed to make this a reality.
There is a need to encourage donations via the Campaign website, no matter how small.
