The Joint Commission Advanced Certification for Palliative Care
Certification helps to build the structure to deliver consistent care and improve patient and family satisfaction. In addition, the Center to Advance Palliative Care tools take advantage of a guide to help palliative care teams successfully complete The Joint Commission certification process.
The Joint Commission's Advanced Certification Program for Palliative Care is designed to recognize hospital inpatient teams that demonstrate exceptional patient and family-centered care in order to optimize the quality of life for patients with serious illnesses.
It:
- Sends a strong signal of importance and legitimacy to hospital administration, payers, policymakers and organized medicine
- Spurs palliative care team leaders to adhere to quality guidelines
- Serves as a stepping-stone to the presence of a quality palliative care team in all U.S. hospitals.
