Message from the Chair and Executive Director

Dear readers:

During the month of August many readers were on vacation, including us. We hope you enjoyed this time and had some rest.

This month we have several interesting topics and reports in the Newsletter including a policy article from Katherine Pettus and several reports from the Traveling Scholarship grantees who attended the EAPC congress in Prague.

During this month (Sept 17-20) the Congress of the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) will take place in Johannesburg http://africanpalliativecare.org/conference2013/ Thanks to a donation from the Pettus Foundation, we were able to support the travel to this Congress of Mwazi Batul and Anne Merriman from Kampala, Uganda. We are very grateful and wish to thank the Pettus Foundation for their gift which enabled us to support these two hospice/palliative care workers -- congratulations to both. We wish them safe travels and a very fruitful Congress. We look forward to their reports after their return. Congratulations also to APCA for putting together an excellent program.

Next month is our members' recognition month. IAHPC benefits daily because of the hard work of our members who are devoted to the advancement of hospice and palliative care worldwide. Members exemplify a continuing commitment to patient care, improving education and developing favorable policies consistent with our mission.

To celebrate our members' month, IAHPC will give two prizes in two categories:

a) Recognizing member loyalty and

b) Increasing our membership.

Next month's edition of the newsletter will include the conditions that must be met to apply. Spread the word and help us grow our membership!

Until next month,

Roberto Wenk, MD
Chair, Board of Directors

Liliana De Lima, MHA
