Message from the Chair and Executive Director
Dear readers:
World Day: This past month the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance coordinated the celebration of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day around the globe. Many countries hosted celebrations, meetings, seminars and advocacy activities to bring attention to the palliative care needs of patients and their families. Read the reports and share your stories in the WPCA website at http://www.worldday.org/
Members’ Recognition Month: As many of you know, October is Members’ Recognition Month. We decided that it was necessary to build awareness and understanding of the vital function that our members play in the advancement of our mission as well as to give recognition to our members for their support. As part of this recognition, we will give two iPads as prizes in the following categories:
- Recognizing Loyalty
Goal: to maintain the loyalty of members by giving a prize to an individual or institution that keeps their membership active for more than 3 consecutive years. - Increasing Membership
Goal: to increase the number of members by giving a prize to an individual who brings the highest number of new or renewed members during the months between January and October.
In a few days we will be announcing the winners of the two prizes – good luck to everyone!
Advocacy Officer – Job Posting: Recently we sent an announcement for a job position for an Advocacy Officer. This NL has a copy under Announcements. Please feel free to share and send it to your colleagues who may be interested in applying. We are taking applications until the end of November.
Leadership in Palliative Care: This past month both of us participated as mentors and coaches in the Leadership Development Initiative (LDI) program, hosted by Dr. Frank Ferris, one of our board members. This was the last meeting of a two year program to develop leadership skills among palliative care workers in developing countries and to complete their projects which have the potential to change palliative care in their settings.
