The third Faith in Palliative Care webinar, “Palliative Care in Traditional Practices,” will take place on Thursday, August 13, to celebrate World Indigenous Peoples Day. The webinar will explore how Indigenous knowledge, faith traditions, and community relationships can strengthen compassionate, whole-person care. Participants will hear palliative care perspectives from the Indigenous communities of Anishinaabe, Baganda, and Ao Naga in Canada, Uganda, and India, respectively. Register here.

Spiritual aspects of palliative and end-of-life care is the focus of the July issue of IAHPC’s Literature Search, compiled by Barry Ashpole. The 31 selected research articles & short descriptions, grouped by topic, are a resource for IAHPC’s Interfaith Palliative Care Advocacy Network.

On July 30, August 13 and 27, the editor of Pallinews will be taking a break. Pallinews will continue, however, with issues containing some of our most popular submissions: articles (for the first week), book reviews (second week), and excerpts from our issue on assisted suicide (third week). Pallinews will return with fresh articles and news on September 10.

Just 3 days until the July 20 deadline to submit nominees—either individuals or organizations—for the first Dr. Anne Merriman Award for Palliative Care in Africa. The award, €20,000 every two years, honors those who demonstrate exceptional innovation, compassionate care, research, or a longstanding commitment to advancing palliative care in Africa.

The latest issue of the African Palliative Care Association Chronicle reports that the Children’s Palliative Outcome Scale (C-POS) “is steadily gaining recognition as a practical, patient-centred tool for measuring outcomes in palliative care across Africa.” CPOS supports clinicians in assessing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients.
