- Message from the Chair and Executive Director
Dr. Roberto Wenk and Liliana De Lima announce that IAHPC has grants for air fare to the 18th International Congress in Montréal on October 5-8, 2010. Go to our webpage for details. Dr. M.R. Rajagopal, one of our board members, told us about a recent statement made by the President of India enthusiastically supporting palliative care.
The European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) recently published The EAPC White Paper on Standards and Norms for Hospice and Palliative Care.
- Updates from IAHPC Board members – Germany and India
Gian Domenico Borasio, MD, DipPallMed (Germany) conducted a workshop in Cuba on “Palliative Care in Neurology.” Read about the challenges and accomplishments of our Cuban colleagues.
- IAHPC Traveling Scholarship
Dr. Tania Pastrana, Aachen, Germany recently traveled to the V Congress of the Latin American Palliative Care Association (ALCP) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She attended the conference; was one of the speakers and gathered information together with others in order to plan research projects.
- Article of the Month
Dr Carla Ripamonti reviewed the following paper Impact of Medical Qigong on quality of life, fatigue, mood and inflammation in cancer patients: a randomized controlled trial. This is the first randomized controlled trial with adequate statistical power that assessed the impact of MQ on QOL, fatigue, mood and inflammation in patients. The results are very interesting and positive.
- Palliative Care Book of the Month and Other Reviews
Dr. Roger Woodruff reviews six books this month and chooses the following as the book of the month - OXFORD HANDBOOK OF PALLIATIVE CARE.
- Announcements
IAHPC has grants for the air fare to the 18th International Congress on Palliative Care The IAHPC will provide 10 scholarships to palliative care workers from developing countries to attend the 18th International Congress in Montréal on October 5-8, 2010.
Palliative Medicine physician Receives Honor Dr. TD Walsh, Professor at the Cleveland Clinic recently received the diploma of Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians from The Royal College of Physicians, London, England.
From the EAPC A paper titled “The EAPC Task Force on Education for Psychologists in Palliative Care” has recently been published in the April issue of the European Journal of Palliative Care.
The NHS Evidence Specialist Collection on Supportive and Palliative Care Each month there is a wide range of new items added to the NHS Evidence specialist list on supportive and palliative care. Please go to our website to view the new papers.
