Founding IAHPC Board Member
Periodically we will publish the updated bibliographies of our founding board members who continue to serve IAHPC. One such person is Dr. Derek Doyle who has continuously contributed substantially to all aspects of IAHPC. He also served as the first president of the college in the International Hospice Institute and College – the predecessor of the IAHPC.

Bio sketch: Qualified from Edinburgh University 1955. Spent 10 years as a missionary surgeon in South Africa then 10 as an associate specialist / family physician in Edinburgh. From 1968-77 helped plan Scotland's first hospice/palliative care unit which opened in 1977. Medical Director 1977-95 (retired).
Founding first Chairman of the Association for Palliative Medicine of Gt Britain and Ireland.
Founding Editor in Chief of Palliative Medicine (first specialist journal on palliative care)
First Vice Chairman of the European Association for Palliative Care
First Chairman of the European Committee for medical education and training in palliative care.
First Vice Chairman of the National Council for Hospice and Specialist Palliative Care of England, Wales and Ireland
Senior Editor of the Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine (First 3 editions)
Hon. Vice President of the National Hospice Council
Hon. President of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care
First President of the College in the International Hospice Institute and College
Founding Member and Adviser of the IAHPC
Has held 5 Visiting Professorships
Edited or written 18 books, most on aspects of palliative care
Had 50 + papers on palliative care and medical history published.
