Dear Readers:

Welcome to our Newsletter.

The Task Force of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) which includes members from the EAPC as well as the International Observatory in End of Life Care, the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance, and the IAHPC, has recently finished its first report. The report, EAPC Atlas on the Development of Palliative Care in Europe, was published by the IAHPC Press as both a book and CD that details information about the status of palliative care in all of the countries of Europe. Both publications are available in the EAPC website at www.eapcnet.org/Policy/EAPC.Atlas.htm   This report is the result of a great effort by the members of the Task Force and especially it’s leader, Dr. Carlos Centeno from Spain. Congratulations to the EAPC for this achievement.

We are also proud to support a new effort to improve communication, information dissemination, and transfer of knowledge through a global network called Palliative Care Network, under the leadership of Dr. Parag Bharadwaj. Palliative Care Network is designed to provide an Internet platform for palliative care professionals to teach, interact, and exchange ideas with fellow colleagues for the ultimate benefit of patients. Palliative Care Network volunteers use widely available Internet technology to facilitate the education of colleagues throughout the world where palliative care education is deficient. The network welcomes the participation of workers from all of the different palliative care disciplines. You can register through the direct link to the Network in our homepage at www.hospicecare.com

Remember that October 6th is the next World Hospice and Palliative Care Day organized by the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance (WPCA). The main theme for this year is Across the Ages: From Children to Older People. We hope that you will become involved and help celebrate the World Day this year. To learn more about the Day or to register activities occurring in your country, please visit http://www.worldday.org/

For our friends and colleagues from the Northern Hemisphere who are currently celebrating their summer holidays, we hope you have a safe and happy summer!

Until next month,

Kathy Foley, MD
