Program Director of the National Hospice Service in mainland China
The National Hospice Service Program in mainland China , sponsored by the Li Ka Shing Foundation (LKSF), was set up in 2001. This network consists of 20 Hospice units, 17 of which are attached to a major general and 3 to a tumor hospital in China. These units span from southern China , to Harbin in the northeast and Urumqi in the northwest.
The Hospice service provides free, home-based care for the underprivileged patients with advanced or terminal cancer. The main aim is to provide them with adequate pain control so that they can leave the world in relative peace and with dignity. The annual funding of this Program is 25 million RMB. Each Hospice Unit receives 1.2 million RMB per year, with extra funding for the administrative work in Shantou University Medical School from where the Program is monitored. Medical practitioners interested to direct this worthwhile national Program are invited to apply. The applicant should have at least 20 years’ experience in clinical medicine, and familiar with management of Oncology patients. He/she should also have strong management skills, fluent in Mandarin (Putonghua) and good English proficiency. The Program Director is expected to be stationed in Shantou University Medical School , with frequent travel to the rest of China for site visits.
