Judith A. Paice, PhD, RN, FAAN, FASCO
Judith Paice, PhD, RN, FAAN, FASCO, is the Director of the Cancer Pain Program in the Division of Hematology-Oncology and a Research Professor of Medicine, Northwestern University; Feinberg School of Medicine. She is also a member of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Paice is an advanced practice nurse who has devoted her career to the relief of pain associated with cancer, along with teaching others regarding pain and palliative care. She has served as President of the American Pain Society and Secretary of the International Association for the Study of Pain. Dr. Paice was one of the original consultants in the End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) and continues to serve as a faculty member in this program, traveling widely within six continents to educate health care professionals. Dr. Paice serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Pain and Journal of Pain and Symptom Management and is the author of more than 250 scientific manuscripts. In 2018, Dr. Paice was named one of the 30 Visionaries in the field by the Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care, in 2023 she was named a Fellow in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and in 2025 she was honored with the Vanguard Award by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.
Dr. Paice has been a member of IAHPC for many years, recently coordinated a webinar series presenting the ELNEC curriculum to IAHPC members, and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2025. Dr. Paice would like to assist IAHPC in advocating access for medications to treat pain and other symptoms seen in serious illness, along with educational efforts to advance palliative care globally.
When not providing clinical care or teaching, Dr. Paice volunteers at PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving), the largest no-kill animal shelter in Chicago, where she provides care to medically-ill dogs to prepare them for adoption.
