Anna Voeuk

Anna Voeuk is a palliative care physician in the Edmonton Zone Palliative Care Program and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.  After completing medical school and rural family medicine residency training in Canada, she practiced full-scope family medicine in rural communities before shifting her focus towards palliative care.  She did an additional year of residency training in palliative care and received a Certificate of Added Competence in Palliative Care through the College of Family Physicians of Canada and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Palliative Medicine.  She also earned a Master of Public Health with a specialization in Global Health and has a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene.

Her interests include palliative care in the context of humanitarian crises as well as in low-resource settings.  She has participated in global humanitarian responses to natural hazards, conflict, forced displacement, and disease outbreaks in different countries. Her work also includes advocacy, education, and provision of palliative care for underserved populations, including people experiencing incarceration.

Dr. Voeuk served on the Board of the Canadian Society of Palliative Medicine (CSPM) from 2016 to 2020 and was Chair of the CSPM Continuing Professional Development Committee from 2018 to 2020. In 2024, she was honoured to be a recipient of the CSPM Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Voeuk joined IAHPC as a Lifetime Member in 2016. She contributed to the development of the IAHPC Manual on the Use of Essential Palliative Care Medicines for Adults.  As a newly elected member of the IAHPC Board of Directors for 2026, she looks forward to participating in IAHPC’s ongoing work towards achieving equitable access to palliative care worldwide.  

She enjoys watching (ice) hockey and spending time outdoors.
